Community Health, Assessment, Surveillance & Epidemiology
The Community Health, Assessment,
Surveillance & Epidemiology (CHASE) Unit was created to help fulfill the three core
functions of public health agencies: assessment, policy development, and
assurance. One of the primary charges of the CHASE Unit is to regularly and
systematically collect, assemble, analyze, and make available information on the
health of the community, including statistics on health status, community health
needs, and epidemiological and other studies of health problems. Population
based health is another important function of the CHASE unit specifically in the
areas of Cardiovascular Disease Prevention, Tobacco Use Prevention, and Adolescent
Health Risk Assessment. The CHASE unit assumes the responsibility for program
evaluation in these areas.
