INTRODUCTION

The Northeast Health District’s Bioterrorism and Emergency Preparedness Program was formed in November 2002. Our goal is to help health departments in the 10-county Athens area prepare for and respond to potential bioterrorism incidents and other public health emergencies, such as natural disasters and disease outbreaks. We train public health employees and will coordinate the public health response in the event of an emergency. We have also partnered with local public safety, hospital, and other officials to plan a community-wide response to potential emergencies.
